Server migration involving content sites (including recnet.com)

By admin | 7:58 AM EDT, Fri June 13, 2025

Recently, REC has been experiencing extremely slow response on all System40 hosted sites across the REC Universe.

We have traced the issue to the Drupal content management system (CMS) software that we use to drive the content front end on recnet.com and fmtranslator.com.  The excessive caching that is performed by Drupal has substantially impacted database performance.

To attempt to resolve this issue, we will be migrating recnet.com and fmtranslator.com to a separate VPS server with an SSD solely for the purpose of providing the content on these sites.

All other database usage including broadcast data and sites outside of Drupal (such as FCCdata, FCC.today, etc.) as well as the "toybox" applets that are used within the recnet.com Drupal presentation will remain on the current server.

On Friday, June 13, 2025, we will be modifying the domain name servers (DNS) to point recnet.com to the new server.  Users do not have to make any changes on how they access recnet.com, however it may up to a couple of days for the new DNS data to propagate through the internet.

The way to tell if you are on the post-migration server is to look for a green "This is the post-migration server." message on the main recnet.com home page.  This message will run for several days until we verify that the migration was stable and successful..

We anticipate improved database performance after the Drupal content and DNS records have fully migrated to the post-migration server.  Because of DNS propagation, it may take a few days before the caching activity on the pre-migration server ceases.

We do not anticipate any issues with this migration, but if you encounter something that you did not encounter before on the recnet.com website, please contact REC Networks to report the problem.

This changelog entry is being written on the post-migration server.
